My Mate was thinking about holding a LAN in his garage, now he has no sort of tables and it would suck sitting on the floor i was thinking as i have some wallpaper tables do you reckon they could hold enough weight for our monitors and mouse keyboard drinks and stuff ?

Thanks

Michael

flat screens, maybe but keep system cases on the floor

how many are comming to this LAN, and have you even got enough plugs :)

Don't have people sitting on your garage floor. And I'd imagine wallpaper tables wouldn't be able to take the weight; go to B&Q and get some cheap garden tables.

i've done this whole "Improv lan party" thing, it really really really needs sturdy tables. there's nothing more annoying than missing a shot because the table lurched and your crosshairs jittered away off the screen.

good point :)

so did OP host this lan in the end then? if so i still want to see pics :D

Mate of mine is converting his garage as we speak. TBH if its going to be a regular thing then think about getting some porper stuff in. Were getting some unused kitchen worktop surfaces properly mounted all round the edge of the garage. Going to be sturdy as hell.

CAT6 cable all around, and a gig switch in the corner. 50mb internet chanelled through a box so the NAT doesnt get murdered. And then were set for a decent LAN.

Just had a though, if you want it as a temporary measure, then try and get hold of some old kitchen worktops, and get hold of some of them A frame stands used in DIY. Then can support them no problem, and store away easily.

Nooooo, situate it so you are all facing accross from each other, otherwise if you are just staring at a monitor and a wall you may as well be playing online all alone than with your mates.

Don't you want to see the frustration in your mates face as you own him for the 500th time ?

The problem with that is power issues. Were having wall sockets installed off a seperate ring off the mains circuit as to not overload anything. If we had the tables in the middle, it would be extensions galore, something were trying to stay away from.

There could be up to 10 people, with quite a few of us having high specc'd PC. Last thing we need is a fire due to poor planning. Also, we can get more people in if we go round the edges :)

But yes it would be good to see ownage for real lol.

i had eleven gaming PCs running off two sockets once, it was fine. didn't even heat up the cables.

Well if you go away with it then fair play! But we wont be risking it. Half the rigs are running 800W PSU's with SLI. Im a bit thingy when it comes to power requirements I spose....

if it's long term, then you could feed a decent gauge cable to the middle and install some proper sockets there?

You've got to be facing each other. A keen insult as you own one of them is priceless.

As for power just run some extension leads, surge protected if you want. Putting too much thought into a private LAN Party spoils it.

Yeah just spread out power over a few extension leads

Depends on the wallpaper table really. those A frame legs you can get from homebase are pretty good if you have sheets of wood/ mdf about..

Fine for when I've used them in the past, back in the days when we had a hub and a simple file transfer would lag us all out..

The Lan is this friday im yet to source some tables but we will sort something out.

its not the garage your all think of,
it has two floors a bathroom, shower and plenty of power :)

Will tell everyone how it goes .
