Hi there

I'm looking to build a system for a LAN party using a fairly small case ive come up with this....

Case
ThermalTake LANBOX Micro ATX Silver Case

PSU
PPC Silencer MKIII 600W Modular PSU 80+ Bronze

Motherboard
Asus MAXIMUS V GENE Intel Z77 Socket 1155 Ivybridge Ready Motherboard

CPU
Intel CPU Core i5 3570K Quad Core IvyBridge Processor Retail

GPU
Palit 2GB GeForce GTX 670 NVIDIA Graphics Card

RAM
Corsair X79 Memory Vengeance Jet Black 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz CAS 9 XMP Quad Channel Desktop

SSD
OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD - Solid State Drive

This comes to Roughly £1000

Are these components okay for this case and will they all work together?
Also if you think any of them would be better swapped with something else?

I was also thinking about having the CPU water cooled is that possible using this case ?

Thanks in advance.

I'd go for this personally. :)

- These new Mini-ITX cases from BitFenix look rather sexy!
- Along with this top-end SSD being on offer right now you would be stupid to miss out on it, as well as an extra 16GB of storage!
- The low-profile Samsung 8GB Green RAM which is very highly regarded and appears to be a solid bit of kit..
- The mobo is personal preference, I choose Gigabyte over Asus.. Asus are a good brand but for mobos I prefer Gigabyte with them being UK based and just feel the support is better.
- I opted for the Gigabyte GTX 670 as everyone is raving about this model 670 due to it's cooler being very good (very low temps) and rather OC'able!
- The PSU is slightly more powerful, and is also modular so will help keep your wiring/case much more tidy!

P.S. Is this rig purely for gaming hence the lack of an actual hard disk drive? Will you be ok with just an SSD?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £369.95
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £185.99

That mATX board won't fit the case :p But the build is pretty good, just swap the board for either of these two:

That all looks fairly reasonable, the only reason I didn't pick that case is its not out until July and id intended building this a bit before then, do you think there's a reasonable alternative or i should just wait about for it ?

Also what about CPU cooling what would you suggest ?

Thanks

Up to you mate! It's your rig and while we all want nice looking rigs to flash off at LAN - it's your choice really.. If you're in no rush and you really like the look of the case, then wait.. But if you've got a LAN coming up soon and you want to get it all sorted then opt for another one of your choice like the ThermalTake LAN case you initially wanted..

As for cooling, if you want to go water then grab the Antec Kúhler H2O 920..

EDIT - Added revised spec below.

Yeah not to sure, the bitfenix cases do look very nice but the thermaltake one is pretty good to had a friend with one and they are pretty sturdy and that handle is quite useful :P

Only other thing I was gonna say, that gfx card is £160 more than the one I posted is it really that much better ?

£160 more? The Gigabyte model is only £20 more than the Palit one you quoted in your original post mate?

Just go for the ThermalTake case you wanted initially, if you want something now then go for it. ;)

EDIT - Btw the BitFenix has some handy carry handles as well if you look in the pics. :)

Woops didnt mean £160 meant £60

-link removed-

But yeah torn between those 2 cases, both are nice looking, I have some thinking to do :P thanks for the help.

Ooh I'd edit that link out of your post mate - you're not allowed to post links from competitor websites - just an FYI and for future reference! ;)

If it was my money, I'd go for Gigabyte's Windforce edition - just because of so many good raving reviews on it for the cooling/temps/overclocking.. But for the sake of £60, it is up to you again dude.. :)

Well I think im gonna go with the Bitfenix case, was looking at some writeups and theyre saying you can fit a Corsair H100 water cooler in the top so maybe this would be a good way to go.

Good times! Good luck with the build. :)

I would revive this thread come July then as prices will have dropped and there may be some new products out and/or better deals for the money etc. ;)

Right time to revive this thread as were getting closer to the release of the Bitfenix Prodigy case.

This is what ive come up with so far...

Are there any changes you would make to this setup and/or any upgrades that would be beneficial i do have a few hundred more available if it will make a difference.
I am intending to over clock the CPU, RAM and GPU but it will be my first time messing around with over-clocking :D

Thanks

This GPU is clocked faster and is cheaper. The Z77 mobo can switch between the IGP and dedicated GPU as needed, or even use the IGP to boost the GPU when gaming. It can overclock the i5K, I've included the closed loop style cooler you wanted (kinda).

On the topic of overclocking you don't really need that fast samsung RAM. Running anything over 1600mhz makes little difference. The Geil RAM is much cheaper and ties in nicely being black. Bluray drive was added so it could be a awesome HTPC at home

256GB SSD for a good price (games can gobble HDD space). The PSU is OTT but a good price also, it's modular, very quiet and ties in well with the colour scheme. Since you can only use one GPU you won't need more than 550W really.

Alternate PSU
