Hi guys, recently got the internet at my accommodation for university.

Problem is, my computer doesn't actually connect to it. When i plug the lead into the wall and into my NIC nothing happens. The whole 'LAN or hi-speed internet' doesn't show up in network connections. I've tried a new connection many times, i've tried setting up a 'small home or office network' and nothing, i still can't see anything. Can't connect to the internet or anything, just nada!

I've enabled LAN in my BIOS (using an Asus P5N-E SLi) and still nothing. Confused to say the least!

Any ideas guys?

Cheers

Has the BIOS got any of ASUS' AI Net stuff (is that what it is called ?) that can check cables etc. ?

How do you normally connect to the internet, is it through the university network or is it through the normal phone line?

If it's through the phoneline, are you sure it's been enabled?

If it's through the university network, are you sure they have enabled the port?

Do you see a network cable is unplugged message in the system tray?

You could check hardware manager to make sure the network card/port is enabled on your PC.
