At the moment using my powerline kit from downstairs to upstairs im getting transfere speeds of around 5mb/s through homegroup with networked drives.
i
'm using
tplink 250mbps Powerline kit through the virgin media superhub.

I want to try and speed this transfere up.

What would increase these speeds dramatically?

500mbps powerline kit or a new router and use the superhub in modem mode?

Can you reccommend any powerline kits / routers that would increase speeds.

Nothing stupdibly expensive.

I'll give you my experience.

I had 200Mbit homeplugs and was getting approx 4MB/s (32Mbit) transfer rate. I swapped them for the 500Mbit homeplugs and it only went up to about 6MB/s (48Mbit) so wasn't really worth it. Good quality Gigabit switches at both ends.

Its a fantastic way of connecting rooms without cabling but in my opinion you won't get anywhere near the theoretical speeds quoted so you're probably stuck with those speeds.

Yup, exactly

I had 'gigabit' powerline adaptors, the best they managed was around 10MB/s.

In the end I just ripped up the carpet, cut a piece out of the floor board, drilled a hole through the ceiling and put some trunking down the corner of the roof. The wife wasn't too keen on the looks, but I don't care. Now it's full speed gigabit cat5e :D

if I owned the house the floorboards would have been the first thing up.

I rent so just want some decent speeds transferring files between my main pc upstairs and the HTPC behind the TV.
