Lance Armstrong charges

So LA is doing an interview with Oprah Winfrey which allegedly will have him confess to his doping charges but many think it will be more of a concession than a confession. A rehearsed, staged TV interview over a court room - makes sense.

It was suggested in the Evening Standard yesterday that much as you've said it would be akin to Marion Jones' "confession" in similar circumstances where she didn't really admit anything. I've got to admit I'm not planning on searching it out either way but if that's the case there's even less reason to subject myself to whatever justifications he puts forward - assuming he even makes that much of an admission, it's liable to cost him a not insignificant amount of money if he admits to being a doper.

I can't see how he can admit anything.
If he does confess, he has a lot of cash to lose and possibly could end up in jail.
He has too much to lose and not enough to gain.
I certainly am looking forward to watching this interview.

AP reporting that Armstrong has confessed to using performance enhancing drugs in his Oprah interview that was recorded earlier today.

To think there were people defending the scumbag in here. :p

The interview will be simulcast in the UK on Discovery Channel at 2am on Friday morning.

I have read in a few places that he has confessed and is willing to testify against some "top UCI officials".
This could be a very good thing for cycling.

The sad thing is I expect his most ardent fans still won't believe he cheated and that he's only confessing under duress.

I'm not so sure.

I hope so. That's the only way the sport will change. We put to much blame on LA when it's a problem from the top down.

Also interesting read from Nicole Cooke as she retires from professional cycling:

Yeah it was interesting reading everything Nicole Cooke had to say yesterday and she popped up on a few news programmes.

I think she has a very fair point though, women have it so much harder than men in professional cycling and the negatives clearly reflect back on them even worse.

What does that mean? More open than we all thought he would be? It's quite entertaining reading the libel cases and years of strenuously denying doping.....

Airing on Friday at 2 am GMT

I'm expecting a teary eyed, broken speech punctuated by deep breaths and brave continuing. And lots of patting on the back style support from Oprah, who doesn't give a damn who or what comes on her show, just how much she'll earn from advertising revenue.
