Landline Duplicating Calls after upgrade to FTTC

Just changed from ADSL2+ to FTTC (BE to Enta).

Internet working fine but landline calls in and out are being duplicated.

If I dial a number it makes two calls. The first call rings the recipient but the second call (in tandem) gives an engaged tone.

If I dial 1471 I hear the female voice and two seconds later she starts off again as-as if-if in-in echo-echo chamber-chamber.

Before I call the ISP / phone co. Is there a common term / explanation for this?

When you dial 1471, does it say the same number in the echo that called you can you tell?

Wonder if its something bizarre (maybe this is far fetched!) that there is a short with another person's phone line or something

I did 17070 and it said a different number to my line so it looks as if there are crossed wires. When I dial out my number 517283 would place the call but then also the same call is dialled out by the shadow number 514224.

So it's like I make two calls at once for two different landlines but from the same handset. I wonder though if both of us are being billed for the calls.

Logged fault with phone supplier. They recognised the fault and passed it on to BT, who will take upto 72hrs to fix.

That was quite an amusing phone call. Dialled their support, pressed 1, 3, 1 and started speaking with 'Geoff'. 15 seconds later the second shadow call was answered by 'Pete'.

The BT installer returned today whilst I was out. He had to disconnect the Fibre connection (leaving me without internet) in order to stop the landlines being crossed. He said the problem was with the Fibre provider and that I need to contact them.

WTH? Not impressed with this at all.

Mexican stand off.

Entanet saying it's post office fault.

"The problem is with the landline. You need your phone provider to sort it out."

Post Office saying it's entanet fault

"The openreach engineer stated that the problem happens when the fibre is connected - the landline gets crossed with another one. The ISP need to initiate a new fibre connection"

I am back and forth between both and neither wants to resolve it.

Who's right ?Who's wrong?

BTW I know I had a run in with BT Corporate a few years ago. But I don't think I pi$$ed off the OR guys :D

Post Office saying it's entanet fault
No they are not....

"The openreach engineer stated that the problem happens when the fibre is connected - the landline gets crossed with another one. The ISP need to initiate a new fibre connection"
They seem to be asking you to ask your ISP to ask their provider to redo the connection. Basically, he is saying the fault is in the OpenReach network but that he can't do anything about it.

Yes, I know that seems silly, but that's what it looks like from what you've said.

This is still at stalemate.

PO were saying Enta are at fault. Even if it is an OR fault they still said I have to contact Enta. That was PO Person 4

Now Enta Person 3.

He says

"The OR engineer who disconnected the fibre today was at fault. He should not have done so. The issue is with the splitter at the exchange. The OR engineer should have checked that.

In order for this to be fixed the PO have to send an engineer out to check the splitter.

If I want Enta to fix it there will be a charge of £165"

Next?

Yes that's the next step.

Just called PO again. Amazingly got connected to PO 4 again - what's the odds of that?

It now gets interesting. PO say

"The Entanet supplied engineer (OR) damaged the line when he installed the Fibre. Entanet need to send their engineer to fix it"

That's the problem I have. PO say the Enta (OR) guy damaged it, Enta say the PO (OR) guy should not have disconnected the Fibre and should have checked the filter.

I must add I am very dissapointed with Enta. This is not the kind of service I was expecting.

Entanet booked an engineer to perform a pair test tomorrow AM. If there is a fault or not the Fibre will at least be plugged back in.

As for any bill I certainly won't be paying it.

OR engineer identified problem with port. Moved onto new port and all working great.

DSLAM being investigated as it's a fault that they have not seen before. re: landlines merged, making two calls on one line.
