Landscaping - Swimming pool removal?

Okay, I think I'm understanding it a little more now! Does the below make sense?

The electrician sticks something like a 5 way 100a CU in the pump room with a chunky boy cable going out to it from the house.

We then have something like;

1 x 25a breaker to heat pump
1 x 6a breaker for the lighting circuit
1 x 32a breaker for a couple of double sockets
1 x 25a breaker for the pump room circuitry (pump, chlorinator, pool lights)
1 x spare/blank for future usage up to 12a?

The breakers are sized to the max load of the cable and not the appliance.

This makes a lot of sense.

100A supply means running a 25mm cable, that’s very big, it’s probably overkill. What’s the supply to your house?

100a was number plucked when looking through consumer units in general - something like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/british-...way-populated-main-switch-consumer-unit/4274x likely won't be drawing anywhere close to it - the only thing I know for certain will be run from the sockets is a beer fridge!

Is that 5kw heat pump the output or input power?

The 5kw is the input for 21kw output of pool heating.

Right, time to think about hardcore (nice) and concrete in preparation for full patio!

I've heard that using fibre infused concrete is perfectly strong enough for this purpose, and works out far cheaper than using regular concrete and with rebar - yes it's a more expensive mix but far less man hours required (even if they're my own) in laying and tying rebar framework and mesh.

Can anyone clarify whether fibre infused concrete without any rebar would be fit for purpose?

What do you need concrete for when laying a patio?

I was under the impression a 4 inch layer of hardcore followed by a 4 inch layer of concrete is the ideal bed for a porcelain patio, as advised by the guys who performed the pool renovation. It's porcelain slabs to be laid, does that make the difference, or the fact it's around a pool? I really don't know the "why?"!

How does it output more power than you put in?

Witchcraft and wizardry. In layman's terms it's been explained to me that they transfer heat rather than generate it, which is how they're so efficient - they're basically reverse fridges.

Suppose I should post an update really.... so much for this being titled "swimming pool removal"!!

So since last update we've had hardcore laid and consolidated, outer walls chased and trunking with lighting cable placed throughout, concrete laid, walls scratch coated and ready for finishing render.

Should get our first swim in this coming weekend!

15ft x 30ft is a little bigger than a plunge pool, and should be able to accommodate all the OcUK bikini wearers no problem :p

Here's a few more pics of the process of how we got to that stage;

We finally held a pool party!

Since last update the walls have been rendered, painted and fence panels have been installed. Our party shed was moved up to the concrete pad (temporarily, until all the porcelains are laid) and an awesome time was had by all - all of the effort finally felt worthwhile and we're chuffed to bits with how it's turned out so far :)

Cheers all!

Right decision to keep pool surely.

Not sure about massive concrete pad though - I would have gone slabbed patio or wooden decking intertwined with lots of planting and/or grassed areas.

We wanted to go with minimal upkeep of the area, so we'll end up decorating and breaking up the space with pot plants rather than grassed areas - we do have plans for a garden lawn in a separate part of the plot so we won't solely have a concrete jungle out the back :)

We do have far too much tarmac! There is a garage at the back of the house, which is integral to the building rather than a separate building, and this will be turned in to our kitchen with a vaulted ceiling with bifold doors looking out on to the pool/garden.

Our plan is along the lines of the below, black being patio which is laid flush with the kitchen floor out of the bifolds, green being a lawn laid to the side, with the existing pool deck extended to our western boundary. A fence would be erected across the driveway, in red, allowing access and keeping our garden/pool hidden from the roadside.

I posted the estate agent listing in another thread once we'd agreed the sale, so here it is for this thread too so all photos can be seen, to help visual what our vision is - https://www.livingroom.gg/buy/property/1502

Just as an update to this vision we had - here's where we're at now (courtesy of Google Maps for recently updating :p)
