sorry about shoddy pics but wife has had the camera and now i cant do closeups? will be a setting somewhere

new as5 on and ive lost 5-7 deg idle already so its looking good

400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500

was wll worth using them all as it only tok 45 mins in total

Looks very shiny, well done, I would like to lap my media centre 6300 but I am
a little worried I will screw the processor up.

Whats the reason for doing this gents?

Better cooling?

Or just like to polish things :D

Seriously though I'd like to know?

I think some processors the heat spreader is concave so you get poor contact
with the Heatsink, also the heatspreader is coated and not left copper which has better heat transfer.

Rob :)

I was thinking about doing this after seeing people doing it a few times and if your temps have dropped by 5-7c then i think its well worth it, although im gonna blow my warranty i guess but what the heck im doing it sometime soon.

i did take a photo of a razer on the cpu and it wasnt concave or convex and i still lost a good 10 deg idle now (as is getting set)

I seriously considered lapping a while back, my E6300 idles @ 48c because the IHS is rubbish, but I knew in time I'd be going up to an E6600 (waiting for that July price drop), so didn't want to risk reducing the sell-on or invalidating the warranty.

Depends on your point of view I guess. Personally I would prefer to buy a lapped CPU that is known to overclock well than one in pristine condition and 'never been overclocked' complete with warranty. I think I've only read a couple of reports of cpu's dying through excessive volts (1.7+) and none through lapping so I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty issue. Not only that but a 6300 can be had for very little now and even less so come the july price drops so its not as though it would cost a great deal to replace should the very worst happen.

i think this cpu will be in my file serve once i get my quad in july so as of then the poor thing will be @ stock
