Lapping CPU's

Won't make a difference. Waste of my time and energy and I'll never do it again.

However if you're the type of person who asks for opinions and rejects it anyway then go for it!

I lapped my q6600 and made a big difference to temps enabling me to get to 3.6ghz whilst remaining at a reasonable temp.

Not needed to lap my 1055t as it gets to 4ghz ok without lapping :)

Not so in my case. I checked my new 3570K with a straight edge and it was as bowed in the middle as a slapper on a Sunday night. Easily .75mm dip.

In my opinion, lapping will make no noticeable difference if you're not intending to OC. So not worth the hassle or risks.

However, if you want to squeeze the most out of a CPU, it will have a noticeable effect on your temps. I'd also lap the bottom of the heatsink you attach to the CPU. Even polishing it with some autosol will help a bit. But you'll loose all those gains if you then don't apply the thermal paste correctly.
