A friend of mine got a lapping kit the other day with about 8 grades of paper ranging 400-2500 grit

So last night we got to work..we only used the first two grades so far, 400 and 800 grit, but its looking really good already....which is good as im currently building a system (q6600 +TU120) and wasnt going to bother lapping, but after this bit of practice im very confident:D

The proc will take a it of work, but you can see the plating wearing off already:cool:

Tonight we will finish the job!

yeh will do, ill post stats aswell, however probably wont be screen shots youll just have to take my word......my friend will be happy just to even the core temps out a bit,
iirc theres about a 5 deg c difference at the mo....so any cooler temps wil be a plus, we also be using AS5 rather than the pollyfiller type stuff he had on before.

Looking forward to seeing the final results and temps.

Of course rubbing the CPU with sand/abrasive paper voids any warranty :p It's something I'd never do personally.
Bearing in mind also Overclocking and changing the stock fan also voids your warranty, though they wouldn't be able to tell that you'd used a different sync/fan, but would they be able to detect an overclock?

Where did you buy your lapping kit, I don't see too many UK vendors?

Lapping kit = Some sandpaper.

I just went to my local market, found a diy hardware stall and bought a sheet of 200,400,600,800,1000, cost me a grand total of £2.50.

Went home, 45mins work, shiney lapped CPU. Ta Da!

Finished!

Lapping kit was bought at an auction site

Initial idle temps are good, 41/42 degrees, e6300 running at 2.9ghz
