Does anyone know where to find decent lapping kits in the uk, preferably online? google doesn't bring back much - some reviews of PCViper Ultrakit, but nowhere to purchase.

No one will be able to tell you anywhere, as it'd be a competitor. You need to read the FAQ.

Welcome to the forums :).

edit: I just found one really easily anyway!

and its less about the shinyness and more about the real world flattness of the surface, ie use glass or somthing REALY flat for the surface to grind on.

As others have said, just use varying grits of wet and dry to get a good finish. There are some useful guides around the net.

Thanks guys, but I should have mentioned that I'm approaching my first build from a total noob perspective. I have all the bits, with some en route, I'm expecting to start next weekend. For fitting my artic cooler freezer 7 (to my new conroe), I understand that I have to remove the existing paste from the ACF7 and "lap" the surface, having first marked it with a permanent marker to show the flatness.
Assuming that I use standard paper, what would you recommend? What should I be looking for? Thanks again.
