I had a go at lapping today, one core on my Q6600 was always a little hotter than the others.

My dad has a flat plate that I used clamped into a vice.

Spent quite a few hours on it, got it nice and flat and finished it off with 1500 grit.

Result - exactly the same as before, not even a reduction in temps at all :(

Oh well it was fun all the same.

I knew my cooler was fairly flat, the CPU seemed a little concave.

Anyone else ever lapped and founnd temps the same after?

Actually I think it may have took a chunk off the load temps, before that toasty core 1 was hitting 72, now its at 69

Orthos load temps

Core 1 - 69-70
Core 2 - 68
Core 3 - 68
Core 4 - 69-70

A tweak of my fans and they drop to 60

As said before, I'd have a go at the heatsink, take a little bit off the base of that might make a difference.

Sorry forgot to say I already did the heatsink at the same time, it was already pretty flat just Scythe put a fairly rough finish on it so now its nice and smooth.
