lapping

I am considering lapping but im a bit wary of damaging my i7.

Does it cause static discharges that can damage it? And why would intel spend money on a nickel heat spreader if it is just going to be sanded off to copper?

Is it safe? I wont do it wet or anything just the way tjharlow does it on youtube.

Perfectly safe if you do it properly and take your time.

The nickel heatspreader intel put on is fine for the chips when running at stock speeds but for extreme overclocks you need a completely flat surface in order to maximise the contact between CPU and cooler.

should i do wet or dry? I can only seem to find wet ar dry sandpaper in 400 600 800 1000 1250 and 1500. Should i use all dry or wet or some dry and some wet? What do you think.

use wet and dry sanpaper 400 girt to start but DON NOT wet it when do a cpu, the heat sink you can wet it
