Hi all, im looking to buy the Sony VAIO VGN-SZ1VP, a nice portable laptop with the above mentioned graphics card.

Now, im not really going to be using it to play the latest games, if I do it will most likely be at a low resolution, what are the opionions on it? Will it be ok?

Secondly, i understand that the GPU is dx9, meaning it will be ok with Vista (without the fancy dx10 effects).

If anyone could advise on this it would be really helpful.

Kind Regards

it can do vista's glass effect

it can do decent res' with no problem, just dont try to dump aa and af and expect high fps, 2-4x aa/f max if you want a good fps count.

Thanks for the reply!

That sounds like exactly what I need!

Cheers!

I have this exact laptop and it's a beast. 13.3" screen with 1280x800 resolution means the GPU is never really taxed to it's limits. I'd say it paces about level with my desktop 6800GT although in certain games it pulls ahead.

Duel core centrino also means you have plenty of grunt, carbon fibre chassis,Wifi ABG.

One of the things they don't tell you about it is you can revert with a hardware switch to the embedded Intel graphics card which doubles your battery life.

And finally, it comes with 128Mb of DEDICATED video memory but it also pools 190Mb for textures from the system DDR2 memory. If you are serious about gaming, spend £50 on another 1Gb DDR2 module (it comes with 1x1Gb NOT 2x512Mb so upgrade without throwing the old one away!!!).

Had mine 3 months, can't fault it. Everyone who see's it thinks it's the sexiest thing they've seen, then I swipe my fingerprint to logon and tell them the specs and they stand there drooling ;)
