I have recently got a 2.5" to 3.5" convertor to try and save my laptop HD but this is not finding the HD when plugged in.

One thing I would like to ask about is that not all the pins are covered and have some spare ones at the end, do these need to be capped?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

There is the main pins area then a space and a few more pins. The other side which connects to the main pc has the power connector with the IDE cable port to the computer.

I am at work at the moment but Ill add a picture when I get home.

How do you add a picture?

I have another HD on the IDE which is the OS. I tried placing it in the slave but that didnt work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice on posting pictures - great link!

Edit: Although I might have to work on the picture size lol

Did yours have any spare pins once you connected the hard drive? Do you have to place caps on them?

It doesnt appear in bios for me. I am wondering if it is broke as it came with very little packaging in a plastic bag.

Suggestions?

Ok I'll take a picture of it tonight. What do you want it connected up to the connecter?

To be honest I dont think it had any caps on it at all. Could be the problem there. Is it the same sort of setup for a laptop drive as it is a desktop drive with the little caps?

Sorry dont know much about the Laptop HD's setup. I am assuming it is missing the jumper caps to make it a slave or main HD.

Ill take a few snaps tonight and post as I really want to salvage this laptop.

Yes that looks exactly like the problem. I will give that a try later. As i didnt use any jumpers.

Hopefully that works.

Thanks for all those that have taken their time to respond

OK, time to take a step back I think.

1) It works just have a problem with the OS on it and need to format it.

2) Has jumper settings for slave but not for the master. I am running it as a slave.

3) The only other IDE device that I have is a HD (Which is the OS) and my dvd writer.

4) This doesnt seem to do much. I am using one of the spare power cables in the computer. Is that wrong?

Neither are on the same IDE cable as the hardrive or DVD Drive.

Too be honest I am not sure which way the adaptor goes on. The power slot for this is also very tight to get in as well.

No it does not appear in bios
