Search the bay for a cheap Thinkpad (I have a R50e) and then wipe it and install Ubuntu, there is a thread for the latest distro. Everything was configured and up and running in under 10 minutes. :)

Hi,

get an ibm seem to be the best supported in linux :)

download some live distros, suse, ubuntu are two that come to mind which include good wireless support and see if they work before doing an install.

Basically anything using the prism chipset / intel centrino should work out of the box.

Cheers

i use Suse 10 on mine, it picked up my wireless and everything else straight away. Tried Fedora 5 and it hardly detected anything,

HP Omnibook 6100/1Ghz mobile Pentium III here with Intel Pro wireless 2100 Mini PCI, fitted by self, with internal high gain antennas off Ebay, like centrino, running Ubuntu 6.06. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

I got FC5 on an old compaq, it wasnt easy getting the wireless sorted but now its up and running its fine, ndiswrapper is quite a good little package.
