laptop battery problem

my Dell XPS 15 9520 has stopped charging. apparently it is the 'circuit tree' on the main board is goosed. i had a new battery fitted last week thinking that was the problem. the new battery came with 65% charge. laptop worked fine for a few hours, better than on the old battery (so there was some kind of issue there) but once the battery ran flat i could not recharge it. it is in the repair shop now and they can't recharge it either, hence the 'circuit tree' diagnosis.
So i now need to find a way to recharge the battey. i am hoping there is a way of doing that with the battery removed, on thg ebench so-to-speak. ? anyone got any clue if that is even possible,? i am sure the laptop willrun just fine with a fully charged battery, i just need to get it powered up so i can retrieve my data. any suggestions ideas very much appreciated.

You could in theory charge the battery, but you’d need to modify it pretty significantly. Either tap fly leads directly from each cell and change each cell individually, or tap leads from between cells and charge across main positive and negative terminals. That latter would require a BMS to not overcharge any cell and a power supply of the required voltage.

Great care and much caution is required as much fire can easily ensue.

I don't know how much you are willing to spend, but you could search for cheaper low end models that use the same chassis/board/battery as a surrogate battery charger. I.e. either transplant their charged battery/use it to charge your existing battery. You can then sell on once done to recoup some of the cost.
