Laptop black screen problem

Hi , my laptop screen has suddenly stopped working. It's a gateway laptop and everytime I turn it on all I get is a black screen , I can hear the HDD kicking in and the power lights come on but nothing on the screen , just black. I cant even see the screen faintly.

Anyone know what this could be and if there is an easy fix ? I've tried taking off the battery , holding down the power button for 60 seconds , then replacing the battery but it hasnt worked.

try an external monitor if you can this will determin if its the screen area or mainboard, if you get a display it could be the lcd or lcd cable if not its the mainboard at fault

99% certain it is the backlight. It could be either the inverter or the backlights themselves.

You can usually get replacements for not too much wonga on a popular auction site.
