Laptop - buying checklist?

[ivrytwr3]

OK, i am the family pc fixer/buyer and not through choice!

But now, i have had a an older family member ask me to get him a laptop. And that's it, pretty vague eh?

Normally, i would pop round and discuss what he needs one for, budget etc. But as he is miles away, i'd like to get all the info, make the purchase and then visit for one day setting it up for him.

So my question is:

Is there a laptop buying checklist out there, that i can get him to fill in? Something that asks for example webcam yes/no. A checklist that basic!

Ta!

Can't you just wack one up yourself?

would be able to, but surely someone had thought about this already and is out there somewhere!

1) does he want to play 3d games on it (i guess not so gfx card is not important)

2) does he want a small netbook with long battery life and small screen thats easy to carry round the house

3) or does he want large 19" laptop that will pretty much sit on one desk and be more of a 'tidy' desktop

4) or does he just want a normal sized laptop

jsut make sure if it has w7 or vista on it there is at least 2gb or ram.

also use free avg or avast and open office dont buy norton and office 2007!

looking for a regular sized laptop, not netbook. And has now told me he is looking to spend between £300 - £399.

Any recommendations?
