Laptop capable of running Bad Company 2 (medium settings) under £800?

Without sounding dumb and not being up to speed which is the best for some gaming if needed? :)

Bigger number = better performance, but there's not much in it.

You can check out some benches here:

Just to clarify (sorry if I'm stating the obvious), i3/i5 have on-chip graphics (intel 3000, I think) and using NV's optimus tech via the Forceware drivers, will switch seamlessly between the on-chip and discreet graphics depending on whether you launch a 3D app. i7 has no on-chip graphics so you're stuck with the discreet graphics all the time, hence slightly bigger power draw.

Quite a few XPSs on the outlet today, including a few with full HD screens, so looking more encouraging than last week.

Many thanks Mark

Yeah just saw a 1920x1080 for just under £400 with an i5 on there

Will def op to for i3/i5 in that case

Thanks again

No prob.

Reading the reviews those 1080 screens are supposed to be as good as you can get atm, normally costs £170 to add new, around £70 if you can get it as an extra on the refurbs, so definitely worth considering.

My only reservation would be running games at that res would most likely bring the graphics to its knees above low settings and you'd probably have to scale it down quite a bit.

If you can get one with Blu-ray as well, however, would have thought you'd have a very nice setup for watching movies, especially with the excellent sound on the XPS.

What are the rules about discussing Dell laptops on this forum? If it's not allowed I apologise for the following:

I've just seen what appears to be a pretty good deal (I'm not ready to buy though) on an XPS 17:

Good value for money?

Twin HDDs, very unusual but probably correct as the XPS17s do apparently have 2 bays (so HDD+SSD or RAID also possible if the BIOS permits it I presume). Nice Blu-ray option, plenty of RAM and 9-cell battery too (apparently these higher-capacity batteries raise the base at the back quite a bit, though). You'll get the higher spec nv 445M graphics with the i7 17s too so pretty powerful machine. Very nice.

Thanks, marktime.

I'm just trying to get an idea of what constitutes a good deal on an XPS so that when I am ready to buy I'll be able to do so right away without worrying about getting ripped off or missing out on a bargain due to procrastination.

I bought a similar one a few weeks ago. Slightly better deal than what I got but am happy with it so will keep it.

Mine came with 2 hard drives too but unfortunately you cannot run it as a RAID the bios does not allow it. Benn playing Bulletstorm at native 900p resolution and medium graphics averaging about 30fps and gpu temp was 58c.... going to try overclocking it slightly.... But i think the bigger 9 cell battery definately helped with it as it raises the bottom. bought a separate laptop cooler for it too.
