Not for myself, but for my uncle, who only really wants to get online... but then he's not used a computer in years, so I am concerned the limitations of a Chromebook might be an issue after a while. He has the budget for more anyway, but it's still a low budget of course.

Doesn't need to be fancy (nor will it be at this price either), as long as the build quality and reliability are good, but most reviews I'm finding don't seem to be very convincing. Any suggestions? Several Dell, Lenovo and Acer models seem to stand out, but I'm sure I'm missing other potentials.

Do you want a Chromebook or a laptop?

You can get pretty much the top spec chromebook for around £200 eg Lenovo N20

I would highly recommend a Chromebook, you can find all the limitations and advantages online but I would really say that unless he needs specific windows software then a chromebook is a great choice.

I think you're right. I keep asking him what he wants to do with it, and all he says is for the internet, so I don't see him needing more than a Chromebook... I've just never used one myself so I wasn't sure of any limitations/issues with them.

For around £250-300 then, what's the best Chromebook for that kind of money (can be less if it's great value).

As I say unless you need specific windows software then Chrome OS is a really good OS.

For browsing, youtube, even documents in Google Docs it is great!

Had a quick look and the Lenovo N20 or Acer CB3 look like the best options, a solid processor with 4gb ram which I would definitely recommend!
Be wary that I think only the famous forest do the 4gb version of the Acer so be sure to check the specs if you find it elsewhere!

The 32gb storage and 4gb ram will definitely come in handy!

also check out the Toshiba CB30-B-104 which is currently on offer at JL.

Not sure about the others but the Lenovo N20 is available for £150.

At that price I'm considering one myself.
