Working in support and a user raise an Incident; when they plug in the hdmi cable to the HDTV there is no signal. But if they unplug an hdmi from the monitor it work.

He has his laptop connected to a port replicator which then has two hdmi out for his dual monitors . He then has his laptop screen open too so that’s three screens his laptop iGPU is powering.

My theory is it doesn’t have enough juice to power the 4th display ( the Samsung HDTV via HDMI from the laptop itself)

Is there such a thing like a laptop dock or port replicator that has a built in gpu that can power 4 displays?

Yes there are plenty look at DisplayLink, hardware with software based GPU which will do USB to HDMI. you can buy it as a simple cable or built into more expensive docks.

You can also get eGPUs with dedicated graphics that act as docks if he has Thunderbolt or USB4 I used to have a great one a Bosgame 7600 (AMD Radeon 7600M GPU inside ) which was 4 displays 2 HDMI 2 DP, nice and compact there are many others. Much more expensive that display link though.

Laptop would have to support either Thunderbolt 3/4 and/or USB4 or OCuLink to be able to dock it with an external GPU and/or use a dock with additional display outputs.

A very less than ideal alternative is DisplayLink - fine if you want a simple extra display output for office stuff, etc. but not ideal for gaming or more demanding video applications.

Absolutely nothing wrong with displaylink if you are doing office stuff, my missus uses one daily she has no idea she is not using a real GPU.
