Laptop doesn't turn on with CMOS battery plugged in?

Hi,

My laptop just completely refuses to turn on when the CMOS battery is plugged in? It also only turns on when the AC adaptor is plugged in (i.e. it comes on automatically)

This is happening on 2 different motherboards! The only thing i haven't tried yet is a brand new CMOS battery - I've tried 2 old ones but it does the same. If the battery is plugged in and I put the adaptor in, the on light just flickers briefly.

If I plug the CMOS battery in for the first time it will power up then when I come to turn it on again it won't respond from the power button or when I plug the AC in and I have to take the battery out for it to boot up again.

There are no options in the BIOS that I can see that would cause this (the BIOS options are few anyway)

Has anyone got any ideas as to why this would be happening?

Thanks

is there a jumper for the clear position of the cmos? I wonder whether that's in the wrong position? alternatively maybe hte power button is fubar'd and having the "hold down power to turn off" effect, but turning it on also by simply being depressed?

I can't see one, I have access to 2 of everything as one of the laptops has a cracked screen and both motherboards are behaving the same.

I've swapped the power buttons / DC board / CPU's etc. The power button works fine once the laptop is on (i.e. it will shut the computer down) It's bizarre (and annoying!)

Thanks for the help :)

Hi mate,

I actually can't remember but I think it was to do with the way I put the pins back into the motherboard (pwr on, reset, etc)
