I just got a new laptop, it's an Acer Aspire 5680 - this is the spec:
Intel C2D 2.0Ghz
2Gb ram
160gb HDD
GeForce Go 7600
I use this for various things, and one of those things is reading digitized journal articles for uni - which I find much easier to do if there is silence - fan noise in particular is distracting which is one of the reasons I bought a laptop - for the quietness of it.
Now it is pretty quiet when doing things like web browsing or running adobe etc, low cpu usage stuff basically. However from using nTune I have seen that the temperature of the GPU starts out at around 49C, it will then slowly rise until about 57C, at which point the fan kicks in and brings it down, then it rises again, fan kicks in etc.
There are no options to change fan settings in the bios. Speedfan doesn't report the fan speeds and nTune allows me to see it but not edit it, it also won't allow me to underclock the card.
Is there any way that I can use software or even a modified bios to alter the fan settings? Alternatively, is it conceivable that I might be able to take the back off and either replace the fan with a quieter one or reseat the HSF with some AS5. It looks easy enough to take the panel off where the fan is..
Thanks for any help,
Felix
