I'm probably in a minority but I really don't like matte screens, I just think they look cheap and washed out. I'm a sucker for a shiny glossy screen, but they seem to be being phased out except on cheap laptops. But I want to play to games (just light gaming not brand new games), which cheap laptops won't do!

Best I've found so far is a Toshiba P50-C, i5 broadwell with a GeForce 930m and a very glossy full HD screen for £575! The 930m is far from ideal but the price is good and it'll do the job but I want to see if I can do any better? So requirements are:

i5 minimum
geForce 850m/950m or better
glossy screen!
1080p screen
ideally metal silver finish but will accept metal black
15.6" or 14" ok
under £800

I've had a good look around but I don't think this laptop exists. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

What games are we talking about here?

£575 seems a lot for something with a 930m inside it tbh, gloss screen aside, you can have a 1080p with a 960m for that for price.

Really, I thought it was cheap! haha.

Mostly civ 5 which my current laptop with integrated graphics can play, company of heroes 2 would be nice, and mostly last gen 360 era games of which I have loads. I have a gaming pc in my living room (xeon e3 and gtx970) and that is my main gaming pc, this is just for casual strategy games while watching tv or if I'm away from home and have nothing to do.

A 930m will do the job and is about 6x faster than what I've got now, but I just wanted to see if I could get better.

Can't compromise and the glossy screen I'm afraid. I've had a matte screen for the last two years and it's horrible!

If you up the budget to £900 you can get the Asus G551JW if you shop around.

Thanks, but a bit over the top and expensive for what I'm after. Thanks anyway.

The other poster mentioned that I could get a 960m for around £575, I haven't seen one that cheap so was just curious as to which one that could be.

Thanks, looks interesting! Can actually get the 13.3inch with a glossy 3200x1800 screen but it'll be a nightmare trying to drive that with a 960m!

Haha, as cool as a 3200x1800 would be, on a 13.3 inch screen its going to be more of a hindrance than a boon. 3200x1800 would be fine on the desktop and even with old games, but you'd have to change it way down when playing anything from the last 3 years.

Absolutely, I totally agree. The reason I was looking at that screen is simply because it was glossy, but it has a stupid resolution! Again with the Toshiba, there's a more expensive model for £900 with a 950m, but it comes with a 4k screen, albeit glossy!! I don't want a 15" 4k screen, glossy or not! I already have a 55" one in my living room and it's hard enough driving that with a good desktop pc, I'd never want to have one in a laptop.

Why can't clevo have a glossy 1080p screen, even for the same money as the 1800p one I'd buy that. Or why can't Toshiba have the 950m with a 1080p screen, again I'd pay almost the same price for that.

Seems like the laptop gods are conspiring against me here....
