hi guys

i need a low powered machine that will be running 24/7 for bit torrent/usenet downloading/uploading etc

i thought of laptop cos of low wattage, let say if i buy a cheapest core2duo laptop, how many wattage?

cheers :)

I'm not sure of the exact watts you'd be using but isn't a Core2Duo slightly overkill for simple uploading/downloading? Put it this way, I've used a PIII 800mhz laptop for similar before. However if you are going to be using it for more than just that carry right on. :)

Depends on what your newsservice is and how long they archive for. If you are reading huge groups with millions of posts, some horsepower can be very helpful

hi i use my laptop for downloading and other normal day to day uses

my laptop wattage stats are..

idle = 19w to 21w
load = 35w to 40w

on charge it goes down the more the battery is charged
from 35w to 20w

so its a great thing to use if you want to use it as a
download station or use as a file, http, ftp server

laptop stats

Acer Aspire 5051AWXMi Laptop
AMD Turion 64 2Ghz
ATI Radeon X1100
Ram ddr2 512MB upgraded( 2gb)
HD 60GB upgraded( 160gb)
8x DVD-RW
14.1" TFT

my media pc uses double the wattage just on idle, hope that gives
you an idea on what your looking for.

Dell inspiron 6400
intel t2300 (using rightmark cpu to drop voltage to 1.0v)
gma 950

With lid closed downloading via wireless, 15w idle.
Also if folding@home 35w.
