so my laptop, one of those annoying dual gpu ones. the intel hd3000 works fine its its very slow to upclock the gpu in use which i think is odd. however when i change to the ati gpu 6490m its clock speed wont move. it sits at 400mhz and its ram at 216mhz. it wont up clock and it wont down clock.

i have tried every driver i can think of including the ancient official ones from dell but i get the exact same problem. short of wiping windows im at a loss as ive alrdeay removed and renstalled several times now and can find no reason for it.

please help.

Welcome to the hell that is AMD switchable graphics

First off, check in catalyst and see if the game is set to performance mode, if that doesnt work...

For a start, try finding a graphics driver removal tool, download the latest intel and AMD mobile drivers (checking they support your specific card), uninstall intel and Amd drivers, then use the tool to obliterate any vestiges... Reboot, install intel first, then AMD, then check the app in Ccc and check it is set to performance mode

If all of this still doesnt work then reinstall windows, and if that doesnt work, first cry, then go on ebay and find an nvidia card that will work in your laptop which is what ive done in the end

oh i sohuld have said i always set the switchable thing to manual and then i control rather than have it **** about fliping back an forth and getting stuck.

what? i dont think changing the gpu would be an option. still i share your sentiment about it being hell. i cant say if nvidas option would be less horrible but i cant see my next laptop having an ati card inside. or my next desktop upgrade either.
