A friend of mine bought a gaming laptop from Kobalt last year or so. Unfortunately the gfx card has died and even more unfortunately Kobalt has now expired too.

Where can we source a new card for a laptop?

I guess it would need to be a gtx one, though not sure what model would be good enough for gaming?

(I'm guessing this is not a conflict with OcUK as they don't sell these)

It's imposisble to answer without knowing the specific model of your laptop.

For the vast majority of laptops, you cant buy an off-the-shelf graphic card and plug it in. You need to go to the manufacturer, and get the specific graphic card made for that specific laptop. This is usually pretty costly.

Limited exceptions exist, for instance clevo-based laptops. I'd do a google search of your laptop model, finding out which specific graphic card you need, then check on ebay.

Hmm, I suspected it wasn't going to be straight forward.

Thanks for the reply.

Kobalts are Clevo based iirc.

As such, you should be able to swap out the GPU. You'd be better off asking in the Laptop forum maybe, there's a few Kobalt users in there.

I've had it confirmed, it is Clevo based and requires a MXM III type card.

Can you just buy these as retail or is it ebay etc

there is a company that sells GPU cards for laptops, can't remember its name but I think it has MXM and Upgrade in the title.

They are not cheap!
