i am using a CM360 case and it very compact i am fitting an ssd for the OS, but was thinking or using 3or4 250-350gb 2.5" hdd's in raid.

i am thinking it would give more performance than 1 x 1tb hdd?

how would the 2.5"'s stand up to been used in raid and what would be the best option to set the drives up in my board supports RAID 0,1,5,10

Laptop SATA drives behave just like 3.5" SATA drives, but often slower. I doubt there would be much real world difference between two 5400rpm laptop drives in RAID0 vs one quick 3.5" drive, so if data integrity is important to you, RAID1 them. Another less technical option is just have a couple of extra drives in there as storage and use software like Allway Sync to keep folders back up to schedule
