My laptop HD is on it's way out, the laptop keeps rebooting itself randomly (think due to timeouts witing for the device to respond) & the drive makes an odd buzzing noise which changes pitch if you lift one side of the laptop.
It's a Toshiba: MK4025GAS which I think is a 4200 rpm 40GB drive
I would like to replace it as cheaply as possible with the slightly nippier Toshiba: MK4032GAX which is 5400 rpm 40GB
Anyone know if that drive should just fit straight in?
AFAIK they are both on the ATA 100 interface but I'm not sure if there are any differences in connectors. The old drive appears to have an edge style connector, old laptops I have taken appart in the past have had pin style connectors & I dont want to buy the drive only to find it has pins instead of the edge style if you see what I mean
