Got a laptop with 2gb of memory and am going to put in 4gb , apart from actually putting the memory in, is there anything else I need to do before booting it up, any setting up in the bios or should it be automaticaly reconized?.
Thanks

I've just upgraded a Dell laptop from 2Gb (2 x 1GB) to 4GB (2 x 2GB) today.

Turned off, took the old sticks out, put the new ones in, rebooted, the bios says the memory has changed and dumps me into the bios screen, save the config, it reboots, up and away in Vista no problems.

Agreed, had the same with a Fujitsu Siemens Laptop, would only take 2GB. Has two slots replaced the 2 x 1GB's with 2 x 2GB's but only sees 2GB but will run with 1 x 2GB and a slot empty.

I had actually bought the laptop for my son but because of it only having 12" screen (Acer 2920) I thought it too small so I got him a bigger sony one and then instead of returning this one I dicided that I liked it so I kept it but it only had 2gb ram so I just put 4gb in and it works fine though only registers 3gb but its a bit quicker now and the ram was only £32 for 4gb from Oc's,:)

Just got 4GB for my HP 6715b laptop for vista x64 (Windows 7 x64) will go on it when I can get my hands on a beta as my main system is running x64 Vista.

Just considering a 7200 speed disk too and then using the current disk in a 2.5" USB caddy etc.
