Hi,

I'm looking for a laptop/notebook for home (wireless enabled and for Flight simulator 2004) and for work (flight plan info, crew/company website, email etc)

I noticed an article in a magazine about the "Satellite P100-286" for £1399

I don't really want to spend more than £1700-£1800 so that seems a good offer.

Is this the best deal I will find? I did have a look on a few other websites but couldn't find much. Any recommendations?

Also, would this be good enough to run games like flight simulator 2004?

yikes if your limit is £1800 you could pretty much get any laptop you want!

try looking at machines by dell (cheaper/bad support though) and ibm/lenovo (expensive but well made).
 
yikes!

dont buy yet! esp that amount of money. the Santa Rosa laptops are on their way and nvidia have confirmed they will be doing dx10 graphics cards for them. Besides with a dx10 lappy you will be able to get FSX and run it at max :D


p.s. xps support is pretty good other dell support = bad :)
 
Might wait then... although not interested in FSX (FS2004 has much more realistic add-ons) I gues it would be better waiting.

When are these laptops due to be released?
Where would I expect to be able to get one?

Is there really a big difference between the two? appart from price ;)
Two advantages in the top one: dual gfx card and better CPU....
 
I have had terrible experience with Alienware. My mate bought a top end one with the extended warranty. He has had nothing but hassle and poor service. Anecdotal, but don't think the cash necessarily buys you anything other than a shiny case and overheating components.
 
RE: battery
mines lasts for about 2 hours gaming. was playing fm on it and The Movies on it for at least 1 3/4 hrs. Does last longer if your not gaming though

I would never pay that amount for those spec tbh

for that kind of money (£1500 - £2000) i would expect

i own a Rock laptop (2ghz XCT), same chassic and screen as above, got it over a year now, perfect. no problem so far. their forum is very good. any problem, u post there and Rock director will help you out personally. Nick will look after you as if you're his son :)

EDIT: didnt realised Alienware mALX cost £2.5k :eek:

mite as well get Rock Xtreme SL Pro for same money

checked the alienware website.. $4000 and its not even a core 2 duo? pmsl!

Seriously I wouldn't thats not even dual core and 19" screen = 30mins battery life.
