Laptop or battery issue

hi all,

I’ve got a Lenovo G710, getting on for 5 years but I gave it a new lease of life last year by doubling the RAM and adding an SSD HDD.

However it’s kaputted.

I plugged it in yesterday and it got into windows and a few mins later it made a sound like tissue paper being crumpled and just shut off. Even when plugged in there were no lights on in (normally is to show it’s plugged in) and pressing he power button did nothing.

I’m reading online it seems pretty common to happen and a good way to fix it is to unplug it, take the battery out and then press and hold the battery button 10 times at a second each and then hold it for 30 seconds continuously. This takes all the static/residual charge away.

Plug it in and the light came on! Press the button and it loaded! Shut it down again to leave it charging and a few mins later there was a noise again and all died again!

What do we think? Battery issue or something more sinister (expensive)?

TIA
