Laptop problem

Hi my friend has an Acer Aspire 1600 running the preinstalled XP Home with no harware changes. Recently (and it is not just on hot days) it has been getting to hot with the fan spinning hard and it shuts itself down. Anyone had similar problems and is there a simple solution. I was in the bios and could see no thermal settings.

Any help much appreciated.

Does the Task Manager indicate 100% (or near enough) CPU usage? If so, use the processes list to find which process is using up the CPU (ignore System Idle Process). Could be spyware.

Is it when the lappys doing something or just when idle?

Does it not throttle or have some form of CnQ?
