Laptop problem

My alienware area51 m7700 laptop is currently having fairly serious problems with the graphics card overheating. If I play any game for more than about 5mins the system shuts down. I have investigated by removing the graphics card heatsink and found it horrendously hot, almost too hot to remove. The graphics card is an Ati mobility radeon x800. Any ideas much appreciated.

I am presuming that is is just a faulty graphics card at this point, is it common for faulty graphics cards to overheat to such a massive degree?

Shout at the people you bought it from? A laptop should be better than that, IMHO.
