I have a broken Dell Latitude e6500 here (basically fried the charging circuitry on it, don't ask how, it's a long and embarrassing story for another time xD, now it doesn't charge batteries and refuses to run any faster than 800mhz). It contains a core 2 duo p9500 running at 2.53ghz.

I also have a compaq presario a900CTO which contains a pentium dual core t2370 running at 1.73ghz.

Can I transplant the c2d into the presario?

The motherboard MAY not support it. And there will not be a BIOS update. It will physically fit though. It may be a bugger to get to!

As Darkpilgrim said, I would imagine you could. Make sure cooling is sufficient and there is ample room for it to sit once its moved over.

Hmn, if the motherboard doesn't support it, will it do any damage to either of the parts? or will it just refuse to boot?

If I can do this, I can finally get some of the speed I had with my latitude back. I wish I had the cash to fix that thing :( Damn motherboards, why u so expensive.

Yep, just refusing to boot, but jesus christ. Getting the C2D out of my Latitude was a piece of cake, not difficult at all. Getting the Pentium out of my Compaq however was another story. Hory.

Let me guess - you needed to strip 90% of the base unit out. :p
