Hi All,

The Child starts Year 8 and her Mum is looking at getting her a laptop for school work.

Completely out of the loop when it come to laptops. I know years ago Intel controlled the market. However, now there are a lot of Ryzen options available.

She wont want to spend a lot but will at same time want something thats going to ladt 3+ years ideally 5 years.

Hit me up with a couple recommendations to keep options open for the below budgets

  • £300
  • £400
  • £500
Cheers

You may have luck looking for business laptops on ebay. Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude, HP EliteBook etc.

I picked up a decent Thinkpad for £200. There's cheaper still, depending on what screen size and features you want.

What features is the mum looking for?

This Dell laptop is discontinued, but I bought the Dell Inspiron 15 3000 for £499 (brand new) back in May 2021. It's got a Ryzen 5 3500U CPU with 8GB DDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD. Battery life is up to 8.5 hours. If you Google it, you can see the rest of the specs.

It's not been used much over the years, just been sat in a backpack at home most of the time. The exterior needs a wipe down otherwise it's still in great condition.

I can put it up for sale through the Members Market if you were interested. I don't have a need for it anymore, so I've been meaning to give it away.

Lenovo, just check what they have for your budget. £500 is not that much for a brand new one so the Specs will be limited. I have found them to be tough, I use one 7 days a week for years and it was only a cheap model
