Hi All!

My 5 year old Sony Vaio is starting to heat up and takes a lot of time to get moving. I would really like to open it up (looking at some youtube vids), clean the dust and re-apply some thermal paste to it. I am also in process of getting a full blown pc so need something which is extensible to put it together.

I need to know which kit is necessary (are they all the same?) as I have never done this before.Any precautions i need to take? How has your experience been going solo ?

Cheers!

I've never used a kit before. Just pop it open like the instructions say. You can clean most of the dust out the dust out by giving it a little blow.
If you're thinking about hoovering the inside make sure you hold the fan still otherwise it'll generate electricity and might kill something.
You shouldn't need to take the heat sink off. If you do this'll probably do for new paste:

I usually clean the old off with a cotton wool bud with a drop of wd40 on it.

The slowness it probably really because it needs the HD replaced with an SSD. It'll make it like new again.
