with my laptop (Dell 17R SE 7720) , I think I have 2 slots for a storage. I was thinking, with the current prices of SSD's, can I swap out the 2.5" mechanical HDD for a SSD just for the OS?

If this is possible, how would I go about installing Windows 10 on a new SSD?

edit: the support website also states it has the option for an mSATA flash drive up to 32gb? Does anyone know if this is instead of a mechanical or SSD drive or alongside it?

Of course it's possible to use an ssd, this has been covered a thousand times on the forum and all the info to perform the procedure can be googled in 2 minutes. Just search for "replace laptop hard drive with ssd".

The ideal choice for that laptop would be a 512gb ssd for the os in the first slot and a 2tb hard drive as additional storage in the second slot.

Upon further research, I only have one 2.5" slot, and a mSATA space. Looks like it will have to be a second hand mSATA drive around 128-256gb for the OS and the existing space for the hard drive.
