Laptop stated maximum memory vs chipset maximum?

Maybe sony list the max as 2GB because of the OS. To take full advantage of 4GB of ram you need to have a 64bit OS, if your current OS is 32bit that would explain why its saying 2GB is the max when the chipset can technicaly handle 4GB.

You could always see if any of your friends/family have a laptop that takes the same ram, and try it in your machine.... the worst that could happen? the laptop doesnt startup with the extra ram installed

i have a similar issue with my fujitsu siemens Pi2515. it states 2GB max from the manfacture yet intel's chipset can take 4GB. i currently have 1 2GB stick, and i have checked, i only have 1 memory slot to put memory into :(

Now I've seen a few laptops with only one slot accessable from the back panels, however upon opening them up properly there is sometimes another slot available either on th eother side of the pcb or hidden under the main back panel.
