Can anyone give some advice on a mid price Laptop that supports the Oculus Rift S?

This is not for any serious gaming, instead for my 9 year old to use whilst playing Roblox - I'm out of my depth with technical specifications, have already got it wrong once, so looking for some specific guidance on a make & model I can purchase rather than a list of minimum and recommended spec …..

Buy a quest 2 rather than a laptop that'll support rift s to play roblox. Oculus website has min spec, something like i5 cpu and 970gtx gpu.

i disagree

he already has a Rift S, no point in buying a Quest 2 when he needs a computer anyway ?
True wireless, much better vr experience visually, same price or less as a laptop needed to drive rift s, loads of games suited to a younger audience.
We'll agree to disagree :D.

It is to play Roblox using the Rift S...
I’ve already purchased the rift - in October for Christmas- so it’s too late to return it
Have both. Quest is the same price as a laptop needed for roblox....you don't need the laptop if you buy a quest.

Your rift will be on ebay within a few weeks :D

Unfortunately the sole aim here is to play Roblox with VR and there is no mobile VR version
. So if I correctly understand it seems that to do this with even Quest 2, it needs to be run though a PC using link cable, so I'd still be at square 1 of needing a suitable gaming Laptop to support the Quest?

Yes.
I've had a look around, you're correct, no mobile version of roblox and no one has streamed it wirelessly with virtual desktop so u need a tethered pc or laptop. The minimum specs for rift s are on oculus website, they're more than I thought, a laptop with those specs won't be cheap.

thanks …. I already made a laptop purchase on some advice it would cover the spec, but it did not (issue with GPU), this is why I now hoping for some help on a suggested 'reasonable' priced on to buy, my expectation now is it will be around £1000 price tag :-( I just don't want to buy another one that in the end doesn't cover the need. I've no real technical skill to understand the spec to be honest so was hoping there could be some guidance out there - expensive game of Roblox … but for now the RIFT is an expensive ornament - I wish Santa had been more clued up about this before he delivered :-)

I have a rift s and my pc, nvidia gtx 1080 with i7 7700k cpu and 16gb ram, powered it ok. It's above minimum spec. Oculus recommended spec is
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10.
  • CPU: Intel i5 4590 / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or greater.
  • RAM: 8GB.
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon R9 480 or greater.
  • GPU RAM: 8GB.
  • Ports needed: 1 USB 3.0 , 1 DisplayPort
1000 will get you something of this spec comfortably. I had a look at 1 specific laptop for 899, the gpu you will get will be a rtx 2xxx series (2060 to be exact) which is better than a gtx 1060. The cpu's in that price range are good enough. Personally I'd try to get 1 with 16gb ram, not 8.

To get an idea of if a gpu is good enough, use this website to compare gpu's (compare the gpu on the laptop with oculus' recommendation)

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2060-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB/4034vs3639

I started off thinking I could buy a HDMI to Display port adapter at £10, then found out it was a new laptop I'd need …. Bought one already at £650 that I had to return
So I'm now hoping I can get a solution within £1000 budget, if pushed much beyond that then it would probably need to be goodbye Oculus Rift (and a very disappointed child)
