Hi Guys

Possibly a little off the radar but I have a internet explorer problem with an old laptop running Windows 2000 Professional.

When I try to access some websites a dailogue box comes up "Internet Explorer could not open the search page" and you get the white "Page cannot be displayed" now the PC is connected by lan cable to a modem router and I can access the internet as witnessed by me making this post.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Any help gratefully recieved.

Maybe the default search page is set to some defunkt MS web page? So when IE can't find the page you are on it tries to search but links to a page that no longer exists. I take it IE6 is running on the laptop?

It's not the default page it's some random selection sites, some work ok some don't. I don't know if IE6 is running I'll have to check. I can't get through to windows update either which is bind, so if it is running an ancient IE I can't update. :(
