Treated myself a month or so to a Gigabyte Aero 16 UHD laptop which came with 16GB DDR 5 4800 mhz Ram upgradeable to 64GB.

Bought some Corsair Vengeance Sodimm Ddr5 4800mhz 64 GB. And it won't boot, tried alternating sticks to both slots, nothing, switch back to the 16GB and it boots straight away.

This should be compatible no? Or are both sticks borked?

Have you tried with just one stick of the new RAM?
A possible issue is that the laptop is sensitive to the ranking of the RAM. I have a NAS which insists on 1Rx8; give it 2Rx8 or 1Rx16 and it won't boot. I haven't had that problem with any other NAS.

Got in touch with Gigabyte, and whilst they don't say it's not compatible they don't guarantee it either. They've given me a short list of micron, samsung and sk hynix they do list as compatible

Due to the chipsets used (i.e. cut down versions of the desktop ones) and often lacking BIOS options laptops can be annoyingly picky with RAM. I upgraded a laptop recently and had to use 32GB of standard speed, standard timing RAM as the BIOS lacked the functionality needed to support any higher performance stuff :( though to be fair for its intended purpose there is nothing gained using higher performance RAM but I had some sitting around I could have used instead of buying a new kit.
