Laptops on planes?

Mobiles, internet, wireless etc do not have any effect on flight controls.

It was once thought it did but its since been proved it doesn't and no-ones changed the rules yet.
It did - on horrendously old equipment, it can cause incorrect measurements. Not on any modern stuff though. Mythbusters did some tests.

Using the interwebz during flight has been known to crash planes...apparently.

Remember the film Alive? Based on a true story about South American kids crashing in the cold mountains and living?....Well that plane crashed cos someone used the interwebz.

I doubt it. The film was made in 1993 about an incident that happened in 1972.

I believe some planes do now have onboard wi-fi. Expect it to cost a fortune to use though. :/

Otherwise, yes, indeed you should never place laptops in hold baggage. Keep them with you. Some airlines don't like you using wireless mice or bluetooth, so disable those in advance. I'd disable wi-fi in advance too and re-enable it only if you're given the OK to use it onboard. Some airlines also used to not like use of CD/DVD drives, but I think that's less of an issue now.

I remember about 8 years ago on a Lufthansa (I think) flight being told I wasn't allowed to use my minidisc player at because it could interfere. I said 'OK' and then just discreetly used it when she walked away.

No. But whether I watch Lost or not, an island still can't be hidden. If it's a piece of land protruding from the sea, there's no way it can be hidden.

It can, its inside a portal - a time space continual portal. Hence it aint really there to any one outside the portal. Unless you enter the portal at a certain place.

So yes an island can be hidden

:D Have a mildly amusing story about laptops in hand luggage

Going through security at LAX, have my Advent netbook in my rucksack..fine. Bag goes in the X-ray scanner, and they take it out and start fishing around. After about 5 minutes of me looking slightly puzzled, the guy beckons me over and says "The scanner showed a laptop, but I can't seem to find it" :p :D

It had kinda slipped down in the bag, so was sitting flat on the bottom of the rucksack, fished it out and the guy was like  where was that?

Perhaps you had to be there :p

Reminds me of something my friend told me happened to him on a flight:-

"She doesn't know what she's talking about". <player on>
Plane drops about 5 feet through the air.
"Oh ****. Maybe I'll have a nap instead" <player off>

Now, you know this was turbulence, I know it was turbulence and he knows it was turbulence. However, I'd have swicthed the item off pretty damn sharpish as well!

Read the title and had visions of

"I have had it with these Mother ******* Laptops on this Mother ******* Plane.

Alas I was wrong and now feel let down and disappointed :(
