i know its not worth having 4gig ram unless you have 64bit windows but:

would having 3gig ram instead of 2 gig of ram give windows vista a little boost in general terms (windows navigation ect) ?

processor: core 2 duo (2GHz)
graphics: nvidia 8600m GT256 ram

Yes.. the extra gig in a lot of apps often gives a good performance boost.. plus u normally get about 3.2.. not just 3 :)

How on earth do you get 3.2gigs of ram from 3?

OP: 3gb will make things a little smoother and allow vista to cache a bit more, the increased app memory headroom can help out in memory intensive stuff.

I personally like to do things evenly, 2gb or 4gb. :p:)

I'm dubious you'd notice much at all, maybe in memory hungry games it'd help a bit, but in windows probably not going to be noticeable.

I've got 4gigs and even Vista only uses about half of it, even using superfetch.

Probably notice better CPU and quicker hard-drive more than the extra ram. Never noticed any problems running Vista 32bit on my desktop PC (see sig) but it can run like a dog at times on my laptop. They both have 2 GB DDR2, but the desktop has 7200rpm drive and double the CPU power.
