Laptops with XP

Any reason Vista is "Sick Inducing"?

Ive been using it since day scratch and wouldnt go back to XP for all the tea in China tbqh.

Sure it takes up more memory, but thats what i bought the stuff for... sure its shiny interface uses a bit more processing power but thats what i bought it for, sure it takes up more HD space, but thats what i bought it for etc etc etc.

As long as you use a 32 bit variant you dont get any compatability problems (and the 64 bit XP had the same "issues" the 64bit Vista has)

Why is it whenever a new OS is released there are always some that lament it as far far inferior to its predecessor for years and years until MS eventually force them to come into the current era by stopping support for their system??

I had this argument with someone who refused to kill off his windows 98 install as XP would "take up more of my system resources" well yeah it will.. if you want a nice clean OS install a non GUI Unix / Linux variant tbh. If you want a usable OS with a nice GUI for general puporse use, install Windows and for gawds sake install the latest version...

That aside, yes if you want you can buy older laptops with XP still on, or alternatively i believe you can swap in some Vista licenses for XP if you contact MS, but you will only regret it as SW manus move on and Vista becomes a requirement for some things (especially DX10 related items).

1 big company still does xp on laptops but tbh its better off to get vista, ram/hard drive space is bought to be used and it frees up memory when needed anyway, and its not any slower than xp, and aero etc can be turned off.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

Vista isnt compatible with all routers. Vista isn't compatible with all the software that can be used with XP. XP does everything i want in a operating system, Vista will have 0 to -65 effect on my productivity.

How can Vista itself not be compatible with a router?? You either access routers via Telnet or through a web interface :S

OK some web interfaces may have issues, but then use FF, or if your really desperate to avoid tabbing browsers downgrade IE7 (an almost essential XP upgrade too...) to IE6? If its the telnet access then telnet is the same regardless of the OS.

Any idea what software speciically wont work with Vista? I have had TWO instances under 32 bit where a piece of SW wouldnt install cos they had hardcoded the supported OS strings into the MSI, I just set the exe to compatability mode (4 clicks including one right click) and away they went. All drivers etc are available for nearly every single piece of hardware out there. If a laptop COMES with Vista that means its 100% compatible.

Your productivity would be reduced by 0 to -65 what exactly? :S Percent? That makes no sense at all.

Sorry if im being argumentative but a) im stressed out atm and b) I have had this argument with SO many people and am yet to have anything remotely convincing put forward.

Over time it will be. Are we forgetting that this was indeed the case with Windows XP when it was launched? But anyway, if you want compatibility and reduced bugs from the start then yes - stick with XP. But Vista is running well for me and already there have been far more stable drivers out there from hardware/software vendors.

I guess the main point here is don't slate Vista because in due time I'm sure you'd be using it as soon as support is taken away from XP. ;)

There are quite a few older model laptops which still have XP Pro available... but I'm sure the newer Santa Rosa laptops were developed with Vista in mind. A few HP laptops offer XP alternatives.

In the next 5 years i could see Linux being a viable alternative with the way things are heading. Ubuntu Desktop everything a user needs without gaming really.

Ubuntu is already available, perhaps you should be looking to install this rather than limiting yourself to laptops which offer XP.
