the reason why i want to spend quite abit is because i dont want to be buying another in a year or two.
Wont be going wrong with any of the above.

All have solid specs.

Quick example of a Rock Laptop spec:

Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 2.33GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 7950 Go GTX 512MB
WSXGA+ X-Glass rock logo
2GB DDR2 667MHz (1GB x 2)
100GB 7200rpm SATA
8x +/- Dual Layer DVD Writer
Windows Vista Home Premium

Seems lately all I do is reply to threads where people want to buy alienwares and try to put them off. My experience with them (and i know i'm not the only one) is that they have huge issues and run so hot, they (at least alienwares of the previous generation) last about a year before running into major problems. Also when something does go wrong sourcing parts is virtually impossible and very often massively expensive making it an enormous waste of money when its being sold as spares or repairs on ebay.

I'm never convinced about this big gaming laptop thing as compared to a desktop pc they're rubbish (mainly because the gfx cards are way behind).
Its fair to say you can build a £700 desktop pc that will absolutely wipe the floor with a 2k "gaming laptop" so unless you really need the mobility i'd really give this a lot of thought.

I was going to suggest that.

Perhaps spend £1300 on a laptop that has plenty of power, then £700 on a rig?

ASUS motherboard
4 gb ram
2 x 7950 1gb cards

2 wireless connections
floppy drive

surround sound
professional wiring
900w power

Asus hasn't come into play here? Have you checked the Asus G series? Make sure you get one with the new Santa Rosa cores.

They're pretty well built and make a fair few gaming laptops and a decent price unlike Alienware.

looked at the G series. not really that good.

which is the best gfx card out of these two? NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT or New Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT 512MB (DX10)? is it worth the extra 600 for that card?
