Currently own what was a top of the range Panasonic 58" TH-58PZ800B (£4.5k when I bought it) tv and a Yamaha RX0A830 receiver. The TV has and is top notch, infact I'd go to say that I've yet to see ANY 1080p screen beat it in PQ....

However looking at moving to 4k now... and NEED bigger screen and no point in going anything smaller than 75".... I've got a 21ftx17.5ft retangular room so loads of space.

So, anyone got the LG 79UF860 4k TV? Seems to be about the best comprimise from a spec/review and price point of view? Any views from anyone?

I'm looking to spend no more than around £4.5k... and have been looking at projectors (I already have a 100" projector in the living room but that's only 1080p)... and thinking be nice to just have the TV there... sell the projector and then go 4k projector in the cinema room down stairs when it's done. However the projector I want is £7k+ so... right now it can wait!

So, anyone own a 75" + UHD screen and give me some "non bias" reviews?

BTW - Anyone bought one of these? Goodmans, I didn't even know they were still going... however seems, Grundig, Cello are all the same by these guys. Just wondered if anyone had one, obviously it's as basic as they come and I'm not looking at buying one... however would be interesting to know anyone who has bought one?

projectors just cannot match the quality of a lcd never mind a plasma.

you have to go OLED. anything else and it's a downgrade.

I'm not with you there. If we're talking no.s and graphs, sure, but pjs give a more natural, film like, and pleasing image than any panel i've seen. And i'm including oled in that. A decent setup can be every bit as good as what you see at the cinema and, imho, is the best way to watch movie. That and the image being 3 or 4 times the size of a large panel! There's no comparison.

If you can't or don't want to treat the room and put aside a decent budget for pj and screen, though, big oled all the way.

he has £4.5K to spend he can easily buy a 60" OLED for £2K and then a 120 inch projector setup for £2.5K.

that is what I would be doing if I was mad enough to spend £4.5K on a setup.

personally I would spend £1300 on a 55" OLED and about £1500 on projector setup. The spare £1700 would go towards other things. It's overkill to spend the type of money he's looking to spend for marginal improvements on what I'm suggesting.

We should see the new OLED models soon, I'd wait for them to arrive before spending that kind of money.

well now is the best time to get a deal on old models as they clear stock for the new models to arrive.

depends on if you care about value for money though. i doubt it with OP spending £4K+ on tv's regularly but it's worth considering for most people.

It's how I picked up a 55" W809C for £449 last week. The same week sony revealed the prices and line up for 2016.

See, i'd spend 1-2k on the pj screen and the rest on the projector itself and black velvet for the room :) It may come across as snobbery, but i'm not a fan of budget pj setups. If the room isn't a batcave and the pj not a high contrast model, i'd rather spend the money on the biggest, best quality panel going. If it is a batcave, however, and the pj decent, then :cool:

Not sure I'd agree with that, prices have barely moved on the first gen LG OLED's at the moment. Not just that though, they all seem to have issues that could well be sorted in the new panels.

Sure they can! just depends how deep your pockets are.

Reading some on AVS, my god! With their dedicated rooms/basements or house extensions, I've seen prices from $150,000 to $500,000. Everything they could possibly need. No scrimping. Including proper Atmos/DTS-X and such. Full room treatment, best projectors, best screens. You name it most of them have it.

Sometimes reading AVS makes this place look so poor. That and most UK houses simply aren't built for dedicated home theatres.

Anthem av with sim projectors have a monster that's around £1mill mark.
You need a dedicated room behind to house the monster, but the image quality oh my never seen anything like it.

£1.5K and £2.5k isn't exactly what i'd call a budget projector setup.

you can get pretty solid projectors at those price points in fact some like myself would argue it's pointless spending more.

there is just 1 example of many.

i would say a budget projector setup is a lot less than £1500. that's actually a decent budget.

problem is I think you just get used to whatever size you have - even when you go larger

when we moved into our new house - I bought a 60ZT60 - and for first week or so it felt ridiculously massive

now just seems "normal"

it's been discussed before it takes about 1-2 weeks max to adapt.

when i hear people say that tv is going to be too big for the living room i'm amazed. unless it cannot fit physically into the room then it's not big enough IMO.

but i also believe buying the biggest possible is a waste of money. you can right now buy like a 85" tv but it costs ridiculous money.

i think the best price point right now is 55". next year that may or may not shift buy every few years the price point changes by around 5".

the last time i bought a tv it was 50" and the time before that 42" and before that 32". i never spend more than £1K on a tv. in fact my latest 55" W809C cost £449 delivered from sony outlet site.

i will never ever get such a bargain again ever. i tested it yesterday and was amazed. put it back into packaging for when i move home soon.

i think it's best to buy cheaper and buy regularly than go all out and keep it for 10+ years.

449 for a 55 W809C is indeed a bargain :)

I'd love to see how 70+ inch TVs arrive

when my ZT60 I got a phone call from the "Courier" - checking I was in and asking where I'd like the pallet to go ! - pallet ?!
