Hi Guys,
I really really need some help ! I work from home as a graphic and web designer and for a few years ive had my trusty ultrasharps which have served me well, my 24" Ultra is the oldest despite taking a while to warm up its fine...and my Dell 30" Ultrasharp....around an hour ago i popped downstairs for something to eat and came up to my monitor computer off, on the assumption it was in standby i tried switching back by pressing the button on my surge protector my computer lit up with the absence of my 30" dell which after several attempts at unplugging and trying over and over i realised it had died :(

I have seen on the OC forums that there is a guide to fixing it relating to a diode but ive heard the case is hard to get off and in all honesty i nether have the time the patience or the skill do fix it so i came onto OC to source a new one but i have to say im struggling !!

The thing i liked about the dell ultrasharps is they are good quality panels and although i have nothing modern to compare it to i have in the past used TN panels etc and they failed miserably in comparison to the point i daren't even try anything else but im hoping some of you guys can tell me other panels have come a long way since or at least par my current screens....soooo im hoping people on here can recommend me a new screen, im thinking around the 500 pound mark if possible and i need to order it as soon as possible.

Here is two screens ive been looking at

Im also open to other suggestions, maybe even the consideration of a 4K monitor, please please help :(

They both use the same panel (essentially, Dell one is just curved), so are both just as prone to the bleed/glow issues that have plagued many ultra wides. I'd veer towards the Dell myself though, given the better design and customer support. That said, the one you've linked to is B-Grade, so there's a chance someone has returned it for a reason. Then again, it could just be a damaged box... you never know, and that's the risk you take. You can still return it if it's a lemon though.

For graphic design, you won't want anything but IPS. 4K may be an option, but for the size you'd want and need, you'd have to spend a lot more than your budget (30"+ ideally). I think for productivity you can't go wrong with either of your selections... you just have to cross your fingers you get a good one without any faults.

Thanks mate really appreciate that. Yeah ive been reading some things on screenbleed on the dell, apparently installing the drivers can help reduce it.

Ive also come across the 34UC97 which is also curved but a little more expensive, would that essentially be the same screen as the dell as well ?

Yes, they are the same panel in the curved screens, pretty much across all 34" ultra wides for that matter... the only exception being the Samsung S34E790C, but that's a VA panel so will probably not be suitable for your needs.

You're certainly not guaranteed to have bleed/glow issues, but reading some of the user experiences on these forums and elsewhere, there have been some shocking examples that don't seem to have gone through any QC whatsoever. If you get a good one though, I'm sure you'll be thrilled with it.

Yeah no. :p

As per my post today just here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=28193546&postcount=27

I'd honestly avoid thinking about any of these ultrawides. A lot of hassle for poor QC. I'd recommend you go with something else that's still IPS.

The only ultrawide I'd recommend as of right now is the Samsung but it's VA and isn't as sharp as the IPS, so for someone who needs it for work, that's out too.

I don't think any IPS is immune from these issues. The QC on the ultra wides seems to be quite poor admittedly, but then just look at the Acer G-Sync IPS and all the issues with that. You just never know. I'm not sure you'll find an IPS monitor that won't have a mass of complaints around it... or ANY monitor to be honest! Purchasing a monitor these days seems to have turned in to one big lottery.

Indeed. Both my U2713HMs are fine and were purchased last year, but still had to return a couple of times to get perfect ones!

This new ultra slim bezel fashion is making it worse. :(

Hmm ok, so i im guessing this 499 graded one has probably been sent back for that reason then ? particularly bad bleeding ? where would i stand on returning it in that situation ?

Yeah, most likely the B grade was returned for BLB or a dead pixel or two. You can still return it though if you decide to go for it.

That Philips afaik is a VA panel, so not suited for your uses.

Great !! Still none the wiser :(

Whats with the drop in quality in monitors? In all honesty am i at all likley to get a decent 30" or similar quality monitor to match my old 30 inch ultrasharp?

Semi tempted to get an imac 27 5k :s

I suppose the best question i should be asking is can anyone give there recomendations for a good sized monitor for graphic design as close to 30 inch and on a budget of 500-700 please. Doesnt have to be 4k, ultra wide or curved.

Would appreciate any advice at all thanks !

Be good to know ppls views on the benq BL3200PT 32-inch monitor which ive read to be a "semi premium" display and has good reviews although i do feel a little reluctant on a benq as ive always considered them more of a budget brand ?? Apparently they do a 4k version of this too...which i can only assume is an inferior panel ?

has anyone any experience with these BenQ BL3200PT monitors? would love to know if they are any good, or if they suffer from screen bleeding etc
Three posts in half a day, calm down! :D

I don't have personal experience however I've done plenty of reading over the last several months. The BL3200PT is a 1440p 32" VA panel. Not something I'd personally go just because the pixel density is rather low (91.79ppi - identical to that of a 1080p 24" display). It's alright but nothing particularly special, pixel response is fairly slow, input lag is moderate, etc.

The BL3201PT, going by what others have said, is excellent. 3820x2160 IPS at 32", making for 137.68ppi. Not massively high, but Mac users could run that a scaled resolution (such as 3200x1800, nice round numbers) for a 16:9 aspect ratio. Apparently response time is decent (roughly what you'd expect for a decent IPS), input lag is low (no concrete numbers yet, though PC Monitors will have a review up soon) and backlight bleed is fairly rare (a little at the bottom right is common). Non-native 10 bit colour (8 bit with FRC), and 99/100% sRGB. Mac users could run this at a scaled resolution (e.g. 3200x1800, nice round numbers) and get their 16:9 aspect ratio at a comparable pixel density to a traditional 27" 1440p monitor with a little more sharpness (the emulated pixel density would be 114ppi, compared to the 27" display's 109ppi).

Input lag is lower than that of the competing Acer B326HK that uses the same panel.

Personally considering the 34" 21:9 monitors, 32" 16:9 3840x2160, or a 27" 3840x2160. Put off by the 21:9 issues, so it'll probably be this (the 27" wouldn't give a huge advantage in terms of usable space, <115ppi or so is what most would consider to be comfortable, at which point it'd be 1440p, which is what I already have).

haha its because im impatient and no one was answering and needed to get a new monitor ordered ASAP a my current single 24" is tooo small :)

i ended up going for the Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34" after being recommended it by OC staff Rich when i suggested the LG 34UC97 and some others he said the dell would still be best for my purpose. I will write my experiences, hopefully good :)
