Hi guys,

I’m currently using 2x 160 GB Samsung SpinPoints in RAID0 giving me about 298 GB once formatted.

But this capacity is rapidly filling up, and I would like to relegate these drives to being my secondary drives, once I have a new mobo with dual RAID.

For the time being though I would like to know what you guys are using or can recommend? I’m after a couple of drives over 300 GB each preferably?

I’m tempted by the larger Samsungs but the Maxtors (I’ve never had any probs with them?) look good too?

Can I have some suggestions please ;)

Cheers,

SW.

well if it were me i would be looking at the new perpendicular drives that OCUK have in stock

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-078-SE)
The Barracuda 7200.10 is the largest, most reliable disc drive around. New perpendicular recording technology supports vertically stored data bits, enabling increased areal density and dependability for workstations and performance PCs.

- Capacity: 320 GB
- Speed: 7200 rpm
- Interface: SATA-II
- Cache: 16MB
- 5 year manufacturer''s warranty

from what i am reading all new hard drives will be made this way .
heres some links to what there saying about them . there for the 750 gig ones but it may help you out before u make your mind up

cost no object- new 700 GB seaGates. dont buy maxtor. 300 are best value for money, 500> payinG considerbly more per GB. buy several 320GBs

Hmm. Those 320 GB Seagates do look tempting? Good value too ;)

So 2 of them in RAID0 will be quite quick I'd magine?

I don't know too much about perpendicular recording though - I might do some research :D

Why does everyone hate Maxtor then - I've got 2 IDE drives running in my main machine now and they're fine?

Thanks for your replies!

SW.

i had a maxtor a few years back and it was a great drive .but if u look around on the forums lots of people seem to be having big problems with them .so i dont think i would ever buy another maxtor again

from the gamepc review, the noise level is higher than the previous generation disks :(

im hoping the 320gb version isnt that bad. Anyone got one yet?

Yeah those 320GB Seagates caught my eye too and they're a nice price. I'm going to order three tomorrow to replace my smaller drives in my storage box so I'll let you guys know how they are.
